Bridge To NoWhere, Iraqi Style.. Bushs Pork Barrel of Waste

Iraq has turned into Bushs own personal Bridge to NoWhere. We have spent Billions of our dollars on Projects no one wanted in Iraq. Not only didn't they want them, some of them were being built before there was a Government to even approve them. On Friday a report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, handed out the bad news. Over 5 Billion in wasted projects, that once finished, were bragged about, used for show and then left to rot or just stand unused.

We have built or to quote the Times "2,797 completed projects costing $5.8 billion, Iraq’s national government had, by the spring of this year, accepted only 435 projects valued at $501 million." Makes one wonder about the other 2362 projects doesn't it.

The United States often promotes the number of rebuilding projects, like power plants and hospitals, that have been completed in Iraq, citing them as signs of progress in a nation otherwise fraught with violence and political stalemate. But closer examination by the inspector general’s office, headed by Stuart W. Bowen Jr., has found that a number of individual projects are crumbling, abandoned or otherwise inoperative only months after the United States declared that they had been successfully completed.
